Big Lots is closing 19 additional stores, including two more in Florida, as the company continues to navigate through Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to court documents.
In September, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced it would be closing more than 340 stores.
The closures are occurring due to affiliate Nexus Capital Management LP acquiring Big Lots as part of a sale agreement, the retailer said in a news release.

Why are Big Lots stores closing in 2024 in Florida?
“Though most of our stores are profitable, and we are taking every step possible to improve the profitability of all our stores, we will need to close certain locations to ensure that our business operates efficiently and we can continue serving our customers,” according to the retailer.
Big Lots’ sales dropped 10.2% between the first quarters of 2023 and 2024, equating to a loss of about $114.5 million, the company said in its filing.
The company also said it had “substantial doubt” about the ability of the company to continue operating, feeding into speculation about a potential bankruptcy filing.
